Boosting Veteran-Owned Businesses: Lone Star College System's Commitment to Empowerment
In a heartening move, the Lone Star College System is taking concrete steps to strengthen its commitment to veteran empowerment. Through the innovative Veteran Heroes United in Business (VetHUB) initiative, the system aims to increase public contracting opportunities for small businesses owned by service-disabled veterans.A Statewide Program with a Clear Mission
The VetHUB program is designed to expand access to qualified, certified vendors while supporting economic growth for veteran entrepreneurs across Texas. By engaging service-disabled veteran-owned businesses, the system fosters competition, increases access to high-quality vendors, and reinforces its commitment to doing business in a way that is transparent and impactful for students and communities.
A Free Certification Process for Eligible Businesses
The program provides a free certification process for Texas businesses that are at least 51% owned, managed, and operated by one or more service-disabled veterans. Interested vendors can find this information on the Texas Comptroller's website, making it easier for them to participate in the initiative.
Collaboration with Key Stakeholders
LSCS will collaborate with chambers of commerce, procurement networks, and veteran organizations to ensure qualified businesses are prepared to engage and compete for contract opportunities. This comprehensive approach ensures that the system is not only providing resources but also creating a supportive ecosystem for veteran-owned businesses.
A Workshop to Connect Businesses with Opportunities
Current and potential vendors interested in doing business with LSCS are invited to a workshop on April 16 at LSC-System Office, The Woodlands in the Lone Star Community Building, Star Ballroom II. This event will provide a platform for businesses to learn more about LSCS business opportunities and supplier outreach.
The VetHUB initiative is a shining example of the Lone Star College System's commitment to empowering veteran-owned businesses. By providing access to contracts, resources, and support, the system is not only boosting economic growth but also honoring those who have served. As the program continues to grow, it will undoubtedly make a lasting impact on the lives of service-disabled veterans and their families.
