Wike Defends Naval Clash, Claims Obasanjo, Danjuma, Others Call Him Over Abuja Land Matters

📰 Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), **Nyesom Wike**, has publicly defended his heated confrontation with a naval officer over a disputed land in Abuja, stating that his actions were necessary to enforce the rule of law and protect government officials. Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Wike asserted that his primary concern was with a private individual—reportedly a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo (retd.)—who allegedly deployed serving personnel to guard a private property with no legal documentation, not the military institution itself. --- ### Prominent Nigerians Seek Resolution To underscore his point about using due process instead of military might, Wike claimed that several influential Nigerians, including former President **Olusegun Obasanjo** and retired General **Theophilus Danjuma**, have contacted him regarding their own land issues in the FCT. > "Many influential Nigerians have had similar land issues. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a former head of state and president, will simply call me... General T.Y. Danjuma will do the same. They never sent soldiers to attack anybody. They just call," Wike stated, suggesting that high-ranking individuals should approach his office for amicable resolution rather than resorting to intimidation.

Rift With Naval Officer Defended The controversy erupted following a viral video showing Wike and a naval officer, Lieutenant A. M. Yerima, in a verbal exchange after the minister and his team were allegedly blocked from accessing a plot in Gaduwa District. The land is reportedly linked to the former Chief of Naval Staff. Wike argued that he had to personally intervene because his development control officials were being attacked and prevented from performing their lawful duties. "How can I sit as a minister and government officials to the level of directorship are being attacked, beaten up? And I'll just sit in my office doing what?" he queried, insisting that the FCT Administration will not tolerate lawlessness or the misuse of military personnel to obstruct government work. He maintained his actions were guided by law and not personal sentiment.
