Full House Nears: Osimhen, Okoye, and Alhassan Expected Today as Super Eagles Prepare for Gabon Clash
Rabat, Morocco—The Super Eagles’ camp in Rabat, Morocco, is on the cusp of reaching its full complement, with key players, including star striker Victor Osimhen, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, and midfielder Alhassan Yusuf, expected to arrive today (Tuesday, November 11) to join their teammates.
The arrival of the final batch of players will give Head Coach Eric Chelle a full squad of the 24 invited professionals for the first time, just two days ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup African Playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday.
Camp Numbers Swell
The Super Eagles camp, housed at the Rive Hotel in Rabat, officially opened on Sunday. After an initial batch of 10 players, the number swelled to 18 by Monday evening, allowing Coach Chelle to conduct the team's first proper training session with a significant number of players present.
Key players already in camp include:
Defenders: Captain William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Chidozie Awaziem, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Benjamin Frederick.
Midfielders: Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Raphael Onyedika.
Forwards: Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, and Akor Adams.
Goalkeepers: Stanley Nwabali and Amas Obasogie.
The expected arrival of Osimhen (Galatasaray), Okoye (Udinese), and Alhassan Yusuf (New England Revolution) today will complete the roster, enabling the technical crew to focus fully on tactical drills for the Gabon clash.
Focus Shifts to Tactics
With the bulk of the squad now available, Coach Chelle is set to intensify tactical preparations. The team is expected to hold another full training session today, where the final game plan and starting eleven for Thursday’s encounter will be solidified.
The Super Eagles are favorites to win the four-nation playoff tournament, which also features Cameroon and DR Congo. The winner of the final on November 16 will secure Africa's sole ticket to the Intercontinental Playoffs in Mexico next year for a chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
