What's Open and Closed on Presidents Day 2026?

WhatAs we approach one of America's most revered federal holidays, it's essential to know what services will be available and which ones will be closed. With the nation's first president, George Washington, being honored on this day, many businesses and institutions will observe the holiday by closing their doors or operating with reduced hours.

Grocery Stores and Food Establishments
While most grocery stores and food establishments will remain open, it's always a good idea to call ahead and confirm their hours. Major chains like Aldi, Food Lion, Trader Joe's, and Wegmans will be welcoming customers on Presidents Day. Fast-food chains such as Burger King, Chick-fil-A, IHOP, Taco Bell, and Subway will also be open for business.

Banks and Financial Institutions
However, most banks will be closed on Presidents Day, including those that offer online banking services. According to the Federal Reserve, this holiday is one of the 12 federal holidays observed by financial institutions. Customers can still access certain transactions using their online accounts or mobile apps.

Stock Market and Mail Delivery
The U.S. stock market will also be closed on Presidents Day, with trading resuming on Tuesday, February 17. The New York Stock Exchange has listed 'Washington's Birthday' as one of the federal holidays it observes. Meanwhile, the U.S. Postal Service will halt its mail delivery and retail locations on Monday in observance of the holiday. However, customers can still access certain USPS services and products through its website or self-service kiosks.

UPS and FedEx
In contrast to the U.S. Postal Service, UPS and FedEx will both make deliveries on Presidents Day. Although FedEx notes that there may be 'early on-call pickups and drop box pickups (including drop box closures) in some areas.'

As we celebrate this federal holiday, it's essential to plan ahead and know what services will be available or closed. By understanding which businesses and institutions will observe the holiday, you can make informed decisions about your daily activities and ensure a smooth transition into the long weekend.
